Vienna: palaces, art and coffee houses
Vienna is imperial grandeur with a creamy slice of cake on the side — palaces, world-class museums, golden concert halls and coffee houses where you’re welcome to linger for hours. Elegant, walkable and supremely livable, it rewards two or three days.
When to go
April–May and September–October are ideal. Summer is pleasant; winter brings glorious Christmas markets and the ball season. The city is comfortable year-round.
Getting around
Vienna has one of Europe’s best transit systems — U-Bahn, trams and buses on one cheap ticket. The Ringstrasse circles the center, and tram 1 or 2 makes a budget sightseeing loop. It’s very walkable.
🛏️ Where to stay in Vienna
The Innere Stadt (1st district) puts grandeur at your doorstep, Neubau (7th) brings hip cafés and boutiques, and Leopoldstadt sits handy for the Prater.
